Everything I Need

Jan 22, 2023    Matt Willingham

This sermon explores the well-known Psalm 23, highlighting two different perspectives through which we can see God: as our Shepherd and as our Host.

The sermon begins by delving into the imagery of God as our Shepherd. It emphasizes that God is a provider, ensuring that we lack nothing. He leads us to rest in green pastures and guides us along the right paths for His name's sake. Although the path may sometimes be challenging, it is ultimately for our good and God's glory. In the midst of difficult times, God is there to refresh and comfort us, giving us the rest we need.

The sermon then transitions to the imagery of God as our Host. Like a generous host, God provides protection even in the presence of our enemies. He grants us peace, symbolized by anointing our heads with oil, and our cup overflows with His blessings. God relentlessly pursues us with His goodness and love, ensuring that they accompany us all the days of our lives. He is the ultimate provider, and as we dwell in His house forever, we can trust in His abundant provision.

Throughout the sermon, the congregation is encouraged to embrace both aspects of God's nature and to find comfort and security in Him as their Shepherd and Host. They are reminded that God is not only their guide and protector but also the One who graciously provides for their needs. By placing their trust in Him, they can experience His care and provision in their lives.
